July 19th is shaping up to host a war, not in traditional terms of individual fights but in terms of promotions as July 19th is the date of both Afflictions first show and a UFC show added it seams to deliberately compete with Affliction. From that angle Affliction may actually win the ratings war due to the strength of the card despite lack of acknowledgement from the mainstream press.
One interesting development is the addition of the heavy metal band Megadeth to the Affliction card. Although it is amusing to speculate on if Megadeth lead guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine would be the opponent for Matt Lindland Megadeth are actually playing live. The Megadeth portion of the card is billed as a special highlight performance. No further details at this time are available regarding the duration of the performance or what songs would be included.
Megadeth released a new CD United Abominations earlier this year and this event is about a month after the end of the Tour of Duty world tour. A DVD of the US portion of the tour called Gigantour 2008 is being released shortly. As of this writing the bands management could not be reached for further details.
